Frequently Asked Questions
Consider “My Garden Sitter” similar to a child care sitter. We are there to make sure that your plants receive the basic care while you are away. Unfortunately we do not offer fertilizing, horticultural advice, weeding, pruning, or grass cutting. We are there to water!
We do not bring any of our own supplies. The homeowner is responsible for all watering supplies (easy access to hose, watering can, and water supply). We show up on the dates you request and make sure your plants are watered to your specifications. We will even send you texts of your garden if you like!
We only water outdoor plants. If you have hearty indoor plants that you can leave in a shaded outdoor area we are happy to water them as well.
We have blocked off those dates for you and are committed to being in town to water your plants if they need care, so we are not able to give weather based refunds.
If you cut off the water to your house, we recommend a gutter rain barrel that is full when you depart. If you have a watering can, we can use the water from the barrel to take care of your plants while you are away.
Only if you are VERY specific as to what and how much can be harvested and you let us know in writing. Otherwise we leave everything exactly how we found it.
Each visit is $20 for a small, household garden. Depending on your watering needs and the time of year, you may need service every few days or daily. You decide what is best because you know your garden better than we do! If your garden watering will take more than 1 hour, each hour is an additional $20. We do not expect tips.
Due to high online processing fees, cash is our preferred method of payment in order to keep costs low. Payment may be made prior to your vacation, preferably during our free initial visit, or your reservation for service may be released. Contact us if you would like to use an online processing provider (Venmo).
If requested, we will “check in” with you whenever we are at your property to let you know that the service has been completed. (If a telephone number or email is provided) If you have an exterior internet camera or Ring Doorbell, feel free to watch us as we work! We don’t mind.
We enjoy being outside! If the company had social media accounts, we would be too focused on keeping it up to date instead of enjoying what we do.
Another reason we do not post on social media is to protect the privacy of our clients. Technology allows geo-location tagging of photos and we do not want to risk letting people know that you are on vacation.

Why Garden Sitting?
I am a recent college graduate looking to help pay for expenses and love to be outdoors! Our family’s Summer vacations would be difficult due to our home garden watering needs and we were reluctant to ask friends to help out. So I came up with the idea of local garden sitting as a way to help other gardeners. I provide confidential garden sitting services and will not share your travel plans with anyone!
